As FLM draws to a close we thought we'd list some of our many acheivements against the odds. Before we begin, it is worth reflecting that FLM provided a service with full buses during school times as a fully integrated part of a scheduled service 7am-7pm, 5 days each week of the year, except bank holidays. And so to the list:
From a standing start, restored bus services to some of the most unprofitable of rural villages in the UK - ones had had no service for over 5 years.
Built up a school service from nothing to the point where it was spun off as a viable commercial proposition.
Established one of the most successful Shopper Services in the County, embodying the dream of community transport.
Fully embedded itself in the local community, regularly attending & supporting events run by others in the villages we serve.
Became one of the first CT operators to be part of the Bus Open Data Scheme (BODS). FLM embraces innovation even when it doesn't have to be - but rather chose to because this is how we advance.
One of the few CT operators to join the National Bus Fare Cap and offer discount travel for regular users.
Prepared to alter timetables for specific passengers whether adults or children. Not afraid to try new things and to learn by the lessons lived.
Showed just what is possible within Community Transport by being prepared to push boundaries.
Aligned CT with the green movement by offering an alternative to car dependency that was cheap and reliable.
Pioneered the use of leased vehicles within CT as an alternative to the purchase of vehicles.
Founder member of the Oxfordshire MyBus ticket scheme. Thus showing how the scheme can make school transport affordable for those who have to pay and popularised use of bus travel among the young.
Dropped just one service in 3 1/2 years and ran a school service seamlessly - without access to a spare vehicle. For a bus service this record is almost unmatched.
Became the only local provider of MiDAS Training., thus spreading the message of quality community transport to a much wider audience than the villages we directly serve. Taking that message beyond county boundaries!
Spread the virtues of CT to all who would listen. Being at the vanguard of groups interested in community transport.
Made request sections of route a viable proposition showing the potential for hybrid services.
Fully & successfully integrated both volunteer and paid staff into the organisation. Some people want to give something back to the community. Others may need an income. All are treated with full respect as equals.
Established a template as to how to run rural services on a limited budget without compromising standards. Being led by volunteers underpins the respect from the community we serve.
Moving from paper driver walkaround checks to computer ones. This may seem small but it involves driver training, understanding what it means, how it is to be rolled out.
