First & Last Mile relies on more than just volunteer drivers. We’re supported by dedicated people who help keep our services running smoothly. Whether you’re interested in driving, fundraising, marketing or if you would like to volunteer in any capacity, please contact us.

Volunteer Roles

Drivers

As a volunteer driver, you will agree to cover a particular duty. We look to volunteers to also provide emergency cover for another driver.

To drive our minibuses, you need to be a confident and experienced driver with a current D1 license. We provide on-the-job training and support to ensure you are familiar with all driver matters and also our policies and procedures. An enhanced background check will also be required (at our cost). We primarily use both WhatsApp and email to stay in touch with drivers.

Fund-raisers

We need a team of fund-raisers to both improve the service and help keep the fleet new and efficient. If you think you can help us with fundraising please get in touch.

Marketing/Publicity

Community transport is hit by lack of funding, the COVID pandemic and the convenience of the personal. car. In total this has made more and more people wary of public transport. It take time and effort to get the FLM message out there.

FM marketing working on various social media platforms as well as getting into the community of the various villages we serve. So we need people either with social media experience or willing to get out there and meet people.

General Maintenance

Perhaps you have good vehicle maintenance skills with a few hours to spare. If you are knowledgeable about vehicles and would be interested in helping us keep our buses in the best possible condition, this could assist in keeping our regular service costs to a minimum. Conductor / Driver-Passenger assistant

We need friendly people to ride along on our non-peak-hour buses to help our passengers when needed; assisting them on and off-board, carrying their shopping bags, making them comfortable, chatting, generally taking the pressure off the driver. If you have a few hours to spare and you think this volunteer role might be of interest to you, please contact us.

Transport Manager

As the business grows we need someone who can deal with issues of keeping our buses on the road. This is the role of the Transport Manager. It involves liaising with companies we buy or lease from, their mechanics and ensuring servicing and other work is done efficiently and in a timely fashion.

Treasurer

We have need of someone to keep the accounts books in order. This work can largely be done from home on a computer. Familiarity with quickfile is very helpful. It also involves dealing with suppliers, season ticket holders. The job involves dealing with PAYE, VAT etc.
